In a bid to boost entrepreneurial skills among SMEs, the Orissa government has sent a proposal to the Ministry of MSMEs with regard to establishment of a national level Entrepreneurship Development Institute in the state.
"In the proposal sent to the MSME Ministry, we have sought conversion of the existing Institute of Entrepreneurship Development (IED) in Bhubaneswar to a national level institute for MSMEs that would be equipped to meet the manpower requirement of small businesses in the eastern states," said P Das, special secretary, Industries Department of the Orissa government.
The Orissa government's proposal for making IED a national level institute for MSMEs comes in view of the fact that the Union government plans to establish three centres for entrepreneurship development across India.
"Consideration of the Orissa government's proposal by the MSME Ministry is likely to help MSMEs in the state get access to an advanced entrepreneurial development and training centre, thereby enabling them to address the shortage of skilled workers," said a senior official.
The institute in Bhubaneswar is expected to be in the league of National Institute of MSME (Hyderabad), National Institute of Enterprise and Development (Noida) and Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (Guwahati).
