The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has decided to commence work on the establishment of 14 clusters dedicated for the MSME sector very soon. The project for setting up MSME clusters was approved by the Central government with a view to empower the state government to promote small businesses in the region.
"Work on the establishment of a few clusters across UP have started, although they are at different stages of completion. Tenders for the supply of necessary machinery and equipment, needed for commencing work in few of the clusters, have also been floated," said Sashi Singh, joint director of the Directorate of Industries in UP.
The UP government would also undertake major work in the clusters in order to provide marketing assistance and technological upgradation support to small units.
"Commencement of work on clusters including upgrading machinery and technology, extension of marketing support and establishment of common facility centres would help in enhancing the competitiveness of MSMEs in the clusters," said RP Gupta, co-proprietor of Goel Brothers, a small-scale supplier of leather goods in Ghaziabad.
Work is expected to start soon in glass bead and table fan clusters of Varanasi; carpet cluster of Bhadohi; pottery cluster in Khurja, Ghazipur, Meerut, Chauri Chaura and leather cluster of Gorakhpur and Ghaziabad.
The establishment of 14 MSME clusters will immensely benefit the numerous people associated with the sector.
